I am Tara Caden and you would think that after having four, yes, four lovely children that my body would not come back to it's former youthful form.  It is just unbelievable what Coach Berry and the Dare to Be Fit fitness experts can do for you.  Motivation is a huge part of keeping on track to your goal and these guys really can keep you focused.   It is not all work, but a whole lot of fun as the Studio feels like your personal hang out with all your friends.

It seems there’s a new must-have supplement on the market every day. There are supplements that are dietary, probiotic, bodybuilding, energy-boosting, fat-burning, performance-enhancing, weight-gaining, and joint supporting. There are supplements tailored to children, adults, the elderly, males, and females. There are supplements that—well, you get the point.

What is the fuss about supplements, anyway? And could the right supplement be the key to feeling your best, performing your best, and looking your best?

What’s a Supplement?

A supplement is just that: a supplement. As such, it’s a complement or addition to your current diet to make up for what may be lacking. Dietary supplements are made of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, herbs, protein, or enzymes and usually come in tablet or capsule form. Many bodybuilding and performance-based supplements come in the form of shakes or drink mixes. They may be taken in addition to a meal or in the place of a meal.

Why Take a Supplement?

Many people may not get the right amount of nutrition in their diet. Taking a dietary supplement may benefit your health if you don’t eat much of a certain food group (vegetarians), you have an allergy or aversion to a food group (milk or fruits and veggies), you’re pregnant (need extra folic acid), you have a health condition that limits the amount of nutrients your body absorbs (an intestinal disease), or you’re elderly (need extra vitamin B-12).

Supplements are also sold for those who are interested in improving their bodybuilding or athletic performance, as it can be difficult and cost-prohibitive to consume enough of the right stuff to build a statuesque physique.

What Types of Supplements Are Available?

If you’re concerned you’re not getting adequate amounts of certain vitamins and minerals in your diet, an easy way to remedy this is to take a multivitamin each day.

Calcium is a common supplement for those who don’t drink enough milk or eat enough dairy products. However, for your body to absorb calcium it needs vitamin D. You get a little of this vitamin from food, but most is made by your body in response to sunlight. If you’re indoors most of the day, you may need a vitamin D supplement.

Omega-3 fatty acids found in fish oil are a supplement you should take if you’re at risk for cardiovascular disease, and pregnant women should take a prenatal vitamin that includes folic acid to prevent birth defects in their baby. Any time you find yourself suffering from frequent diarrhea, constipation, bloating, or gas, probiotics are a great way to add the healthy bacteria needed in your digestive system.

Doing some heavy lifting? A protein supplement is popular for bodybuilders and athletes. Taken before, during, or following a workout, protein can help muscles recover from their workout, giving them the boost they need to grow and strengthen. A common and well-established protein supplement is whey protein.

Because of the strain placed on their muscles, bodybuilders and athletes need more glutamine than their bodies can produce. This amino acid helps reduce muscle damage and speed muscle recovery following a workout. By taking a glutamine supplement, you may find that you can lift weights more often than before.

Another common supplement taken by fitness enthusiasts is plain old caffeine. Whether in your coffee or pill or powder form, 200 mg of caffeine has been shown to improve the intensity of your workout, giving you the capacity for more muscle building and fat burning.

Also popular are creatine supplements. Proven to build muscle faster, burn fat quicker, and help you reach your bodybuilding/weight lifting goals, creatine is a supplement that is the bread and butter of many supplement regimens.

Are There Safety Issues?

As with all things, supplements carry a certain level of risk. Some may interfere with medications, and supplements are not regulated by a government body. However, as long as you purchase supplements supplied by a reputable company, the likelihood of adverse reactions is minimal. Some consider the risk of eating food from the local grocery store to be a bigger risk, and they may be right.

Despite the safety of supplements, they aren’t all created equally. Like the old adage goes, if something sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Supplements, then, that promise the moon and then some will likely fall short, but if you know people who have reached the moon thanks to a supplement, it may be time to buy your ticket and take off from the launching pad.
