I will be eternally grateful to you for how you healed by back!

I started training with Coach Berry when I was 61 years old.  For four months, I had suffered a great deal of back pain and knew I need to do something different. When I began with Coach, he asked me how I was feeling.  After a lifetime of training with a number of different trainers I could only say I didn't feel great.  My back pain caused me to see chiropractors and accupuncturists, but I found no relief.  After one deep tissue massage, Coach immediately had me feeling better.  After two months of training Coach had me back to 100%.  He knows what he is doing when it comes to training and injuries.  He trains people to perform exercises correctly to avoid injuries.  I have worked with many different trainers all over the San Diego County and Coach Berry is the best, most effective trainer I have meet.  I would highly recommend him to anyone who wants to improve their health and fitness levels.

Ron, age 62

Break Out!

When acne strikes, here’s how to clear it up.

Acne. It’s a normal part of a teenager’s life. While not as common, it can also affect adults.

Embarrassing and frustrating to deal with, acne occurs when excessive oils and dead skin cells build up in a hair follicle and become infected, resulting in pimples and blackheads.

No one wants to deal with acne, but practically everyone does. What puts you at risk and is there anything you can you do to keep a clear complexion?

It’s a Hormonal Thing

When you’re struggling with an acne breakout, you can thank your hormones. Acne is usually worse during the hormonal changes during puberty, pregnancy, a woman’s menstrual cycle, or when you’re using medications that contain hormones. For some reason, hormonal changes lead to the overproduction of oil in the skin, leading to zits.
Unfortunately, acne isn’t just an oil issue. It can also be brought on by certain medications. For some people, eating too many dairy products or carbohydrates can trigger a breakout. Contrary to popular belief, eating chocolate or greasy foods will not increase your likelihood developing acne. (It can, however, increase your likelihood for developing a plumper waistline.)

I wouldn’t even trade the acne scar on my right cheek, because that recurring zit spent more time with me in college than any boy ever did. - Tina Fey

Since acne isn’t caused by dirt, scrubbing your face non-stop will not prevent a breakout. To the contrary, harsh soaps and chemicals may actually worsen the problem. So use a gentle facial cleanser to wash away greasy or oily cosmetics, which can provoke acne.

The friction and pressure on your skin from frequent contact with your cell phone or your oily hands may also lead to acne. Washing your hands and reducing phone time may help your skin fend off acne. Stress also makes acne worse. It doesn’t cause acne, but it makes it worse. With that in mind, don’t get stressed over the zit on the tip of your nose. It may just get worse. Practice relaxation techniques instead.

And if you think you can sidestep acne altogether, look at your parents. You inherit your skin type. Therefore, if your parents had oily skin, you’re likely to also.

Fighting for Your Face

If the pimple fairy has visited you, what can you do to make it go away? Store shelves are lined with treatment options, but how do you know which one will work the fastest? Here are the ingredients to look for.

When dealing with minor acne, look for a product that contains benzoyl peroxide. This chemical works to kill bacteria trapped in your hair follicle that’s causing the acne. It also helps eliminate any excess oil and dead skin cells.

Various strengths are available. The best approach is to start with a low concentration, since it can cause dryness, redness, scaling, or burning—especially on sensitive skin. And be careful to avoid getting the product on your hair, clothes, washcloths, or pillowcases, as it may bleach them.

Cases of more extensive acne should use a topical retinoid product and/or a topical antibiotic in addition to benzoyl peroxide. Retinoids come from vitamin A and work to unclog pores and prevent breakouts. Antibiotics kill off the bacteria responsible for acne. Use only small amounts to start with to avoid unpleasant side effects like peeling or irritation.

If you’re acne is severe and is leading to scarring, it may be time to see your physician. In addition to benzoyl peroxide and a topical retinoid, your doctor may prescribe an oral antibiotic to deal with the underlying bacteria. If these measures don’t do the job, light therapy, microdermabrasion, chemical peels, or steroid injections may be needed for stubborn acne.

Other products promising acne relief contain salicylic acid, sulfur, or alpha hydroxy acids. You may want to try two products containing different ingredients to fight your acne. Try one in the morning and another before bed. Experiment to find what works best for your skin type. It’s hard to be patient, but it may take a few weeks to see the results you desire.

Pimple Prevention

Everyone wants a clear complexion. Take care of your skin and reduce your risk of a breakout by washing your face with a mild soap morning and night. Use an oil-free daily moisturizer and avoid oily sunscreens, makeup, or hair products. Always look for “oil-free” products.

When those bad skin days come, know they’re only temporary. You won’t have to deal with them forever. Find the product that works best for you and see your doctor if your skin doesn’t improve in a month or two.
