I started training with Coach Berry when I was 61 years old.  For four months, I had suffered a great deal of back pain and knew I need to do something different. When I began with Coach, he asked me how I was feeling.  After a lifetime of training with a number of different trainers I could only say I didn't feel great.  My back pain caused me to see chiropractors and accupuncturists, but I found no relief.  After one deep tissue massage, Coach immediately had me feeling better.  After two months of training Coach had me back to 100%.  He knows what he is doing when it comes to training and injuries.  He trains people to perform exercises correctly to avoid injuries.  I have worked with many different trainers all over the San Diego County and Coach Berry is the best, most effective trainer I have meet.  I would highly recommend him to anyone who wants to improve their health and fitness levels.

Do This, Be Healthy

Five habits of super-healthy people.

When you want to improve something about your life, it helps to look to the pros. Look at the lives of the people you want to emulate and copy what they do. Athletes look to their heroes, students look to their teachers, and teens look to celebrities. Maybe your goal is to be healthier, lose weight, or get in shape. Well, there are plenty of healthy, trim, fit people out there who were once in your shoes. If they can do it, so can you! So stop doing it on your own and try to learn from them and follow their example.

To get started, consider these five daily habits of super-healthy people and see how you compare and make the changes necessary for a healthier, happier you.

Habit 1: Hydrate with Water

When you feel thirsty, what do you reach for? If your go-to beverages are soda, coffee, juice, alcohol, or sweet tea, it’s time to make the switch. With zero calories and no added sweeteners, colors, or flavors, water should be your drink of choice. More than half of your body is made of water, making it nature’s ideal beverage to hydrate your body. Make it your goal to drink 64 fluid ounces a day for optimal performance and health.

Habit 2: Get a Good Night’s Rest

Skimping on sleep is never a smart idea. Studies show you can’t make up for lost Zs. An essential part of a healthy mind and body, adults need seven to nine hours of sleep a night, and kids require a lot more. A good night’s rest improves your mood, memory, and concentration; helps manage stress; and reduces your risk of disease. So make a new habit of going to sleep at night and waking up in the morning at the same time every day.

Habit 3: Challenge Your Mind

One way to keep your mind healthy and young is to challenge yourself to learn something new. Instead of staring at the television screen or browsing social media all day, read a book, do a crossword puzzle, cook a new dish, teach yourself an instrument, listen to a podcast, learn a new language, or take a dance class. Just get to work for your brain’s sake!

Habit 4: An Active Lifestyle

Healthy people don’t just squeeze in a half-hour gym workout every day. They’re active all day long because they enjoy exercise. Dedicated cardio or strength-training workouts are part of an active lifestyle, but they don’t do much good if you sit around the rest of the day. Make it your habit to move throughout the day and increase the number of steps you take.

At least twice each week, perform strength-training exercises to build and tone muscle. On your days off, plan to do some sort of cardio workout. Walking, jogging, cycling, swimming, and tennis are all great options. Weight control, disease prevention, heart health, and mental health are all benefits gained by exercise.

Habit 5: Make Your Own Meals

Instead of snacking on empty calories, grabbing fast food, or eating out all the time, healthy people prepare their own meals. Being healthy often requires time and effort, but the extra work is worth the health rewards. Plan your meals ahead of time, shop for the ingredients, and make your meals at home. Seek to eat whole foods as often as possible. Instead of counting calories, count the colors on your plate. A well-balanced diet will include a variety of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean protein, and low-fat dairy.
