Health and Fitness News
I will be eternally grateful to you for how you healed by back!

I started training with Coach Berry when I was 61 years old.  For four months, I had suffered a great deal of back pain and knew I need to do something different. When I began with Coach, he asked me how I was feeling.  After a lifetime of training with a number of different trainers I could only say I didn't feel great.  My back pain caused me to see chiropractors and accupuncturists, but I found no relief.  After one deep tissue massage, Coach immediately had me feeling better.  After two months of training Coach had me back to 100%.  He knows what he is doing when it comes to training and injuries.  He trains people to perform exercises correctly to avoid injuries.  I have worked with many different trainers all over the San Diego County and Coach Berry is the best, most effective trainer I have meet.  I would highly recommend him to anyone who wants to improve their health and fitness levels.

When You Can’t Stop Eating

The dangers of binge eating and how to get help.

You’ve been there before. You eat so much you feel uncomfortable, your pants are tight, and it’s difficult to get out of your chair. Restaurant portions or holiday meals make it easy to overeat. Maybe you struggle with overeating on a regular basis. You lose control and eat large amounts of food in a short period of time. Usually done when no one else is around, you continue eating even though you already feel full. Afterward you feel guilt, shame, and distress, but you don’t try to purge through vomiting, laxatives, or exercise. You’re embarrassed and don’t know how to stop your eating compulsion, so you’re always trying a new diet.

People who binge on food at least once a week for three months straight may have binge eating disorder. The most common eating disorder in the United States, binge eating can lead to serious health consequences. Keep reading to see what can happen when you binge eat and how to get help.

Weight Gain

It’s no surprise binge eating causes weight gain. Consuming more calories than you burn is easy to do when you binge. The majority of people with a binge eating disorder are overweight, though not all of them are. Obesity presents a long list of negative health concerns: heart disease, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, type 2 diabetes, cancer, gall bladder disease, high cholesterol, and arthritis to name a few.

Depression and Anxiety

Binge eating is a vicious cycle. You overeat so you feel depressed. Negative emotions lead you to overeat again and the cycle repeats itself. Food, for many people, is a way to deal with emotions. Stress, sadness, boredom, depression, low self-esteem, fatigue, and guilt can be relieved by a favorite food. The problem? This sought-after relief is only temporary. The next day, those emotions and feelings are still there, often more poignant than the day before.

Reduced Quality of Life

Depression and guilt can affect other areas of your life. You may not sleep as well at night, you may try to hide your eating habits from friends and family, and you may even struggle financially to pay for extra food. All of these issues cause you to suffer a lower quality of life.

Regaining Control

Fortunately, there is treatment available for people who struggle with binge eating. However, it’s highly unlikely you can overcome this problem on your own. Treatment addresses both the emotional triggers for binging and the problem of overeating. With help, you can form a healthy relationship to food and regain control over your eating.

Psychotherapy, also known as talk therapy, teaches you how to replace unhealthy eating patterns with healthy ones, works through your negative emotions and emotional triggers, helps improve damaged relationships, and teaches healthy ways of managing stress. In the event therapy isn’t effective, prescription medications are available to treat binge eating disorder.

Want to use the resources already at your disposal? How about your personal trainer? Remember—your trainer is an invaluable resource to get in shape, and that means helping you lose the weight gained from binge eating. Work with your trainer to develop a workout routine that will help you reach your weight loss goals.

For those who struggle with binge eating, dieting is usually not an effective weight loss method unless it’s under the supervision of your doctor. Feeling deprived of food often leads to binging. With that in mind, dieting isn’t your best bet. Rather, avoid foods, situations, or environments that trigger binges. Keep tempting food out of your home.

Additionally, you’ll want to seek support and encouragement from trusted family and friends. Find a friend you can call when you’re feeling tempted to binge. And finally, adopt healthy ways of managing stress. Go for a walk, take a hot bath, read a good book, or practice deep-breathing exercises.
